Tags, strategies, and notes

Raw fills tell you what happened. Tags, strategies, planned risk, and notes tell you why, and they are what the dashboard's per-tag P&L and the R column are built from.

The trade detail modal

Click any row on Journal → Trades to open the trade's detail modal. Above the edit fields you get the trade's summary: symbol, side, quantity, entry, exit, P&L, result, and account. Below it:

  • Tags: type a tag and press Enter to add it; press Backspace in the empty field to remove the last one, or click the × on any chip. Tags feed the dashboard's P&L-by-tag table, so a consistent vocabulary ("breakout", "fomo", "news") pays off fast.
  • Strategy: a dropdown of the strategies you have defined, or None.
  • Planned risk ($): the dollar amount you intended to risk. As you type, a live readout shows the resulting R, e.g. R = 2.00. This is the only input R needs.
  • Notes: free text, up to 2,000 characters per trade.

Press Save and the dashboard reflects the changes on its next load.

Strategy Management

The Journal → Strategy page is where strategies are defined. Click Add Strategy, name it, and build criteria sections. Each section has a title (say, "Entry Criteria") and numbered rules you add one line at a time. A strategy is a checklist you can hold yourself to, not just a label.

Each strategy card shows a win-percentage donut plus wins, losses, total trades, and total P&L for every trade assigned to it. Deleting a strategy removes the definition only, and the trades keep their history.

Day journals and attachments

Notes also exist at the day level. Open a day from the dashboard's monthly calendar or from the Daily page; the day modal has four tabs: Statistics, Notes, Trades, and Attachments.

  • Daily notes hold up to 20,000 characters, enough for a full session review.
  • Attachments accept chart screenshots as PNG, JPEG, GIF, or WebP, up to 10 MB each.

A day you have written on carries a small Notes mark next to its date on the Daily page. Click the mark to reopen what you wrote: it goes straight to the Notes tab. Days without notes show nothing, so the mark is a reliable answer to "did I write this one up?".

Notes, attachments, and strategies survive a journal data reset. Only derived trades and imports are wiped. See managing and deleting journal data.

Quick answers

Can one trade have several tags?

Yes. Add as many as you want; the trade counts toward each tag's row in the P&L-by-tag table.

What happens to trades when I delete a strategy?

Nothing. The trades keep their recorded history; only the strategy definition and its card disappear.

Where do I see R after setting planned risk?

In the trade detail modal as a live readout, and as the trade's R multiple wherever the journal reports it.
